In the 30th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants hosted defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. In a nail-biting thriller, GT beat LSG by 7 runs as the hosts failed to chase down 136 runs, thanks to pacer Mohit Sharma and co. Mohit bowled brilliantly, especially in the last over as he defended 12 runs and clinched the wickets of KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis.

Earlier, after winning the toss, GT skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bat first on a dry surface in Lucknow. The decision did not go well with the team as Gujarat lost their first wicket for just 4 runs. Opener Shubman Gill was dismissed by Krunal Pandya for a two-ball duck. After his departure, Hardik promoted himself top in the order and came at number three to bat.

Hardik along with wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha added 68 runs off 55 balls. Saha in his innings scored 47 runs off 37 balls with the help of six boundaries. Meanwhile, Hardik in his innings scored 66 off 50 balls with the help of four maximums and two boundaries. As other batters failed to build a partnership with skipper Hardik GT at the end posted a below-par score of 135-6 in 20 overs.

KL Rahul’s yet other slow innings cost Lucknow Super Giants

Chasing 136 was looking doable for Lucknow Super Giants as the team got an amazing start. Opener KL Rahul along with Kyle Mayers added 55 runs for the first wicket in 39 balls. Mayers in his innings scored 24 runs off 19 balls before getting dismissed by Rashid Khan. After his departure, Krunal Pandya came to bat and he along with Rahul added 51 runs for the second wicket.

Krunal in his innings scored 23 runs off 23 balls with the help of a boundary. He was dismissed by Noor Ahmed and it opened the floodgates for LSG. However, in the last over LSG needed 12 runs off 6 balls with KL Rahul batting in the middle. Rahul crumbled against Mohit Sharma and threw his wicket and the match too. Before getting dismissed Rahul scored 68 runs off 61 balls with the help of eight boundaries.

This is Lucknow’s third defeat in seven matches and they are still second on the points table. Meanwhile, Gujarat made a significant jump as they registered their fourth victory of the season. They are now fourth placed in the points table. Meanwhile, fans react to KL Rahul’s slow innings. A Twitter user said, “KL’s Maiden love cost game.”
