‘Hume kya hamara to national sports hockey hai bhai’ – Fans react as Scott Boland dismissed Virat Kohli for 49 runs in WTC finals

Published on

In the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23, India faced Australia at the Oval in London. After getting smashed by Australian batters India failed to hold nerves while chasing a massive target of 444 runs on Day 5. India lost three early wickets as former skipper Virat Kohli, Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and batter Ajinkya Rahane failed to capitalise on the opportunities.

Kohli in his innings scored 49 runs off 78 balls with the help of seven boundaries. Kohli once again succumbed to his poor defence as he poked an outside off-stump ball to get caught by Steve Smith in the first slip. Notably, Smith had to dive to his right to take a blinder catch in the slip. He has been phenomenal in the field in this prestigious game.

After his departure, Ravindra Jadeja also registered a two-ball duck leaving India in turmoil. Both were dismissed by Scott Boland in the same over. In the next few overs, India also lost their top scorer of this match Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane also nicked an outside off ball and wicketkeeper Alex Carrey didn’t do any mistake behind the wickets. He was dismissed by ace pacer Mitchell Starc.

India’s hopes were shattered once again

With this poor performance with the bat India’s hopes for the multinational trophy once again shattered. India lost four finals and four Semifinals since 2013 and has to wait some more time to get another multinational trophy. Notably, after winning the Toss, India opted to bowl first and failed to capitalise on the opportunity.

Australia posted a massive total of 469 runs in the first innings. In response, India managed to score 296 runs and gave Australia a massive lead of 171 runs. In the second innings, Australia declared their innings after scoring 270 runs on Day 4. India started well while chasing but eventually, things didn’t go well with the team.
