‘I spoke to Ashwin and he told me…..’ – Mark Watt on using piece of paper for analyzing before bowling during a World Cup qualifier match

The Ond-day World Cup 2023 qualifier saw an interesting event in Match number 12. It was a game between Scotland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in which Scotland’s Left-arm orthodox bowler before starting his second was seen reading through a piece of paper which he later put in his pocket.

Before starting a fresh over, Watt took a glance at a page that the 26-year-old had as if he was revising the plans which were supposed to be followed at that stage of the game. Watt certainly took his time until he took a closer look, he did not start over. This incident’s video soon has become very popular on social media.

Later speaking about the incident as per reported by Sports Tiger, Watt said that it was related to him analyzing the game situation which he learned from Ravichandran Ashwin at the time when Scotland was playing against India in the World Cup the previous year.

“Yeah, it’s just analyzing stuff that goes back to when we played against India in the World Cup. I spoke to Ashwin and he told me about all the analysis work that he did against Scotland. So, I was like if was doing it against Scotland, I should be doing it against everyone. Just learning from the top bowlers,” Watt explained.

Watt is known for his unorthodox bowling techniques and he even ended the match with a figure of 1/22 in the eight overs that he bowled. Scotland currently stands at the second spot in the points table in Group B with two victories out of two games that they have played which included a nail-biting finish against Ireland where they won the game on the last ball of the match.

Cricket World Cup is set to be played in India from October 2023 and the top two teams from the Qualifiers will be the ones who will be booking their seats directly for the World Cup.
