‘I was going through a lean patch and struggling a bit..’ – Karan Sharma opens up after Uttar Pradesh’s thrilling win over Mumbai in Ranji Trophy 2024
Uttar Pradesh won by two wickets against Mumbai in the crucial Ranji Trophy 2024 game, thanks to the magnificent efforts of all-rounder Karan Sharma, who was not well ahead of the game but managed to secure the win for his side at the iconic Wankhede Cricket Stadium. Notably, the right-handed batter slammed an unbeaten 67 runs and held his nerves to help Uttar Pradesh win the game.
However, Karan Sharma has opened up about his emotions after guiding his side to victory. The 25-year-old cricketer called this knock his best and very special. Notably, the Delhi-born cricketer was going through lean form, but he played under pressure to help his side win the game.
“It was one of my best knocks. I tried earlier too to help UP win. It’s special because it’s come after a long time. I was going through a lean patch and struggling a bit, but obviously in such a situation, scoring for the team and helping UP win feels great. I held the bat very tight, and the situation was such that I had to take that chance,” Karan Sharma said.

Moreover, the middle-order batter also talks about how he was feeling after his injury and how UP skipper Nitish Rana helped him get back on track. The LSG batter reveals how Nitish Rana motivated him throughout the play to help his side win games.
“The injury had been going on for a while and during the game, it got worse as I kept batting. So I retired hurt. When I went off, Nitish (Rana, the skipper) bhai told me that I had to go back no matter what. He motivated me a lot that I had to go back. So when the captain says that, as a player, you know you have to do it for the team. When I felt a bit better and that I could defend, I knew I could do it,” he added further.
