‘If I am not picked in the…’ – Shardul Thakur speaks up on getting into India squad for ODI World Cup 2023
Team India defeated the West Indies by 200 runs in the series decider match and clinched the ODI series by a score of 2-1. Notably, the Men in Blue were facing some pressure after losing the second ODI by six wickets, but the players who are aiming for World Cup spots displayed great performances in the third ODI at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Notably, one such performance came from Shardul Thakur, whose remarkable bowling effort proved essential to India’s win. After being put to bat first, Team India posted 351 runs on board in the given 50 overs. Later, while chasing, the star pacer’s lethal 4-37 bowling figures completely destroyed the Shai Hope-led side’s, dismissing them for 151 runs.
Regarding the same topic, the fast bowler stated that the decision to include him in the upcoming ODI World Cup team is solely up to the management. The 31-year-old also added that he always tries to perform for the team while keeping the situation in mind.
“If I am not picked in the World Cup squad it’s their call, I cannot do much about it. I always try to perform for the team and play according to the situation of a match,” Shardul said, being quoted by NDTV Sports.

The great seamer went on to say that every player is performing well while keeping the upcoming World Cup in mind. He further added that team management is observing carefully to select players for the coming contest.
“With World Cup coming up every game that you play is going to be important from the team’s perspective. In batting, bowling and fielding departments, you are going to judge yourself, you are going to score some marks for yourself. Also, the team management will be looking at you, there will be a few players who will be looking at selection as well. For us individually also all games that we play before the World Cup are important,” he added further.
