‘Iftikhar chacha greatest innings’ – Fans react as Multan Sultans beat Lahore Qalandars by five wickets in PSL 2024

In yet another nail-biting victory, the Multan Sultans have defeated the Lahore Qalandars by five wickets. While chasing a target of 166 runs, it was Mohammed Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed who took the team towards victory. It was because of their collective effort and Qalandars’ bowling attack which helped the Sultans win the match.

Qalandars won the toss and chose to bat first which seemed to be a wise decision. However, after Sahibzada Farhan’s early departure, the decision seemed to be a bit challenging. Fakar Zaman (41) and Rassie van der Dussen (54) were the ones who carried the team’s batting up to 166 runs. For the Sultans Mohammed Ali led the bowling attack by taking two wickets.

When the Sultans came in to bat in the second innings, David Malan’s golden duck out might have frightened the fans to the core. The top order didn’t provide any help to Mohammed Rizwan until Iftikhar Ahmed came in to bat. Both of them scored 82 runs and 34 runs, respectively. It was Ahmed’s fearless batting that actually helped the team win the match with one over to spare. Shaheen Afridi and Zaman Khan took two wickets each. For his outstanding batting, Rizwan was given the Player of the Match award.

‘Never expected it would seam and swing so much’ – Mohammed Rizwan opens up about pitch post-match

After a brilliant performance in the match against Lahore Qalandars, Mohammed Rizwan was awarded the Player of the Match. Thus, in the post-match presentation, he talked about the pitch and how it changed. He also mentioned his expectations regarding the pitch and whether it was satisfied or not.

Rizwan said, “I made some mistake. Never expected it would seam and swing so much. Iftikhar told us if we don’t lose wickets in the powerplay, we will chase it. There wasn’t enough turn when our spinners bowled. Iftikhar is one of the top finishers in the world in my opinion. Catches have been going down at this venue. It’s not only us but even Islamabad dropped catches in the last game.”
