Top five highest run-getters in India vs England Tests
1. Joe Root
The former England captain became the highest run-getter while batting against India on Day One, i.e. January 25. The 2019 World Cup winner scored 29 runs and got 2555 runs in 26 games averaging 62.31 including nine hundreds. Root needed nine runs to become the highest run-getter among both teams.
2. Sachin Tendulkar
The 2011 World Cup winner was the highest run-getter among both teams before Root scored 29 runs. Meanwhile, the former India skipper has 2535 runs in 32 games averaging 51.73 including seven hundreds. He played against them from 1990 to 2012 before retiring in 2013.
3. Sunil Gavaskar
The 1983 World Cup winner played against England between 1971 to 1986. In both series, India won against the Three Lions in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, the right-hander scored 2483 runs in 38 games averaging 38.20 including four hundreds with a highest score of 221 that almost helped the team chase down 440-odd in the late 1970’s.
4. Alastair Cook
The former England captain made his debut against India and played his last against the same side. Out of 161 Tests, Cook played 30 Tests against India and scored 2431 runs averaging 47.66 including seven hundreds with the best score of 294 in 2011. He also led the team to a 2-1 win against India in Asia.
5. Virat Kohli
The former India skipper is currently rested for the first two Tests against England in the ongoing series. Meanwhile, till now, he has played 28 games against the European side and is only nine runs away from 2000 runs averaging 42.36 including five hundreds.
