India cricket honors former Indian legend Bishan Singh Bedi with heartfelt tribute
Former Indian skipper Bishan Singh Bedi passed away aged 77 last Monday. This news left the Indian cricket fans in a huge state of shock as Bedi was known to be a legend of the game.
Once the news broke it moved a lot of fans and the cricket fraternity as well. Over the next few days, the former Indian skipper has been getting a lot of tributes. Cricketers past and present have been sharing their views on the former Indian left-arm spin legend.
The Indian cricket team had taken to the field for the first time since the passing of Bishan Singh Bedi. It was the 30th game of the ODI World Cup 2023 which saw India and England lock horns in Lucknow on Sunday.
Indian Team Honors Its Former Legend
The Indian and English teams came to the field after the toss was conducted for the national anthems. During the Indian national anthem, the players were seen sporting black armbands. This was a huge show and mark of respect for Bishan Singh Bedi the former Indian skipper who passed away on Monday aged 77.
It was visible the players were moved as they stood together to sing the national anthem with pride. Ever since the news of Bishan Singh Bedi’s passing broke many of the well-known cricketers have paid their respects.
Apart from the Indian players even Indian coach Rahul Dravid and the rest of the backroom staff were seen wearing the black armbands. It showed the kind of respect players from each era had for Bishan Sing Bedi.
Bishan Singh Bedi was known to be one of the most feared bowlers of his era. His partnership with Bhagwat Chandrasekar, Eralapalli Prasanna, and Srinivasan Venkataraghavan is well-known around the world.
The four spin bowlers heralded the greatest era of Indian cricket by playing a huge role in many wins. All four spinners were known for their ability to fly the ball and beat the batters with their deception. Bedi played 67 test matches for India and took 266 wickets with a best of 7/98 versus Australia in Chennai.
The former Indian skipper also played 10 ODI Games for India. His spell of 12 overs with 8 maiden overs for six runs and a wicket against East Africa during the 1975 ODI World Cup is still one of the greatest feats to this day.
