‘India ko semi final mai bhar karne ki taiyari hai’ – Fans react as New Zealand defeat England by 8-wickets in 1st ODI

New Zealand beat England by eight wickets during the first ODI on September 8 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, and took a 1-0 lead in the four matches of the ODI series. Earlier, New Zealand skipper Tom Latham won the toss and invited the English team to bat first. After being sent to bat, the home team posted 291/6 in the given 50 overs.

Notably, skipper Jos Buttler was the highest run scorer for his side, as the top order batter hammered 72 runs from 68 balls while featuring five boundaries and two sixes. Later, while chasing, New Zealand star batters Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell forged a terrific partnership by accumulating unbeaten 111 and 118 runs to get a win in the first ODI with 26 balls to spare.

Didn’t necessarily got wickets we wanted upfront but pulled things back: Tom Latham

Meanwhile, New Zealand skipper Tom Latham expressed happiness and called this game outstanding. In addition, the southpaw hailed the partnerships between Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell, which guided their side to a thumping win over the hosts. Moreover, the wicketkeeper batter also talked about the pressure absorbed by Conway and Mitchell from the start of the game. The 31-year-old cricketer also says that he will give more opportunities to a few players in the ongoing series. Furthermore, the Christchurch-born cricketer also opened up about how their side wasn’t able to get wickets initially.

“Outstanding I think. Didn’t necessarily got the wickets we wanted upfront but pulled things back. Seeing a partnership of 180 – the way they played was outstanding on that wicket. It was slower than what we thought it might be. Towards the end guys bowling into the surface and using the big boundaries. The way they absorbed pressure at start of the partnership and then put their foot down. Hats off to those two guys. Will give the guys opportunities throughout the series at some point,” Tom Latham said during post match presentation.
