Team India is all set to face the Afghanistan side for the first T20I game slated to take place on January 11 in Mohali. Notably, the series has marked the comeback of India’s stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Sanju Samson to boost their campaign for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will start on June 1 in the West Indies and USA.

However, there were some notable absences from the team, including the likes of Umran Malik, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Yuzvendra Chahal. This three-match series is set to be the final preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024, as Team India will be facing England for the five matches of the Test series before the IPL, which is set to start at the end of March.

However, the Afghanistan side amazed everyone in the ODI World Cup 2023 as they went on to defeat some top teams like Pakistan and England and make their qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in Pakistan.
