What was the incident that occurred with Wasim Akram in Chennai?

Wasim Akram spoke at The Hindu Lit for Life event, “I was flying to Singapore with my late wife and there was a stop in Chennai for refuelling. When we landed, she was unconscious, I was crying and people recognized me at the airport. We didn’t have an Indian visa. We both had Pakistani passports. The people at the Chennai airport, the security forces, and the customs and immigration officials told me not to worry about the visa and to take my wife to the hospital while they sort the visa out. That is something I will never forget, as a cricketer and as a human being.”

Wasim Akram has always advocated for increased interpersonal exchanges between India and Pakistan. Akram, a Punjabi from Lahore, who is extremely well-liked in India, frequently calls for the revival of cricketing relations between the two nations. Therefore, it’s not unexpected to see Akram thanking Indian officials for their assistance during that trying time.

In the 1990s, he combined with Waqar Younis to create a dangerous duo. Akram, a specialist in both seam and swing, played for Pakistan in 104 Test matches, taking 414 wickets at an average of 23.62. Moreover, the cunning Akram took 502 wickets in 356 One-Day Internationals. He now serves as the Karachi Kings’ head coach in the Pakistan Super League.
