India’s selectors persist in shunning Mumbai sensation Sarfaraz Khan despite Bradman-esque numbers
Sarfaraz Khan, the Mumbai batter, is still awaiting his call-up for the Indian Test selection after being left off the squad for the Test series against the West Indies, beginning on July 12. The cricketing fraternity disagreed with Sarfaraz’s absence from the Test team, with many of his admirers and veterans like Sunil Gavaskar arguing for his inclusion in the longer format, considering his strong past record in domestic games.
Sarfaraz amassed 556 runs over the 2022–2023 Ranji Trophy season, averaging an impressive 92.66. Furthermore, in six matches, he has scored a total of three centuries. Moreover, with 982 runs recorded and a scoring average of 122.75 in six matches, the 25-year-old batter led the way with the highest totals in 2022. Four hundred were also scored by him during that time.
He was one of the top five run scorers in the Ranji Trophy in 2019–2020. In six games, he averaged 154.66 runs and tallied 928. He had scored three hundred, including an unbeaten 301 in a first-class cricket innings, which marked an all-time highest peak.

The 25-year-old right-handed batter has said that he produced an outstanding 155 during his UP debut; nevertheless, the season overlapped with his India U19 games leading up to the 2016 World Cup. Sarfaraz has been hammering on the door of the Indian team for the past two to three years with an Excellent cricket average of around 80. Considering Shreyas Iyer’s back injury, fans expected that Sarfaraz Khan was going to join the Indian side this time for the series against the West Indies.
