ODI World Cup 2023
‘Inhone apni fielding Dilli chor di hai ‘–Fans react to Afghanistan’s abysmal fielding against New Zealand in ODI World Cup 2023
New Zealand is playing Afghanistan in their fourth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The match is being played in Chennai as the Kiwis come into the game still unbeaten in the tournament.
The Kiwis began the tournament with a win over England before beating the Netherlands and Bangladesh. The Afghanistan team on the other hand beat England in their last game by 69 runs in New Delhi. This was preceded by back-to-back losses to Bangladesh and India.
Hasmatullah Shahidi won the toss and chose to bowl first and went in with an unchanged team. Kane Williamson the regular skipper is more or less ruled out of ODI World Cup 2023 due to injury. Will Young came into the team as Tom Latham took over captaincy once again.
Poor fielding spoils Afghanistan’s day in the field
Afghanistan displayed fine cricket on the field during their 69-run win over England on Sunday. The bowling and fielding was top notch while the Afghans were defending their total. On Wednesday it was completely different as there was a series of catches dropped as well as misfields. On many occasions it was comical as there were some easy singles given with the fielders making complete hara-kiri.
Put into bat first, New Zealand ended their innings at 288 for 6 from their 50 overs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman got the first wicket when he had Devon Conway out for 20. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra then put up a stand 89 runs for the second wicket.
The introduction of Azmatullah changed the game with Ravindra first to be dismissed for 32. The right-arm medium pacer then got the huge wicket of Will Young for 54 runs off 64 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Rashid Khan then got the fourth wicket of Daryl Mitchell for 1 as the Kiwis slumped from 109/1 to 110/4.
Tom Latham the Kiwi skipper and Glenn Phillips then did the rescue act as they added 144 runs for the 5th wicket in under 23 overs. Phillips top scored with 71 runs from 80 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Tom Latham scored 68 runs from 74 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes as the Kiwis reached a competitive total of 288.

The way Afghanistan fielders are dropping catches, it's almost like they've been taking fielding lessons from the legendary fielders of Pakistan team.#AFGvsNZ

Afghanistan's fielding has been really shocking.

Rashid Khan might just grab collar of Afghanistan fielders today. I think 3rd fielding error in his last 3 overs.

Horrible fielding from Afghanistan, similar to what Australia did against South Africa. #NZvAFG

Afghanistan dropping sitters in Chennai. New Zealand can easily get 260-270. Pressure shifted on Afghanistan. Poor fielding attempts. #NZvAFG
