‘Inspired by captain Rohit’ – Fans react as Indian women’s team lose their first ever ODI against Bangladesh women’s team
Bangladesh women’s team created history as they won their first-ever ODI against the Indian women’s team in the history of the format. India could not chase a target of 153 and lost to the home side by 40 runs by the DLS method in a rain-affected game.
Indian women’s team won the toss and elected to bowl first. The match was reduced to 44 overs due to rain. The bowlers bowled well and did not let Bangladesh get ahead in the game. Amanjot Kaur claimed a 4-wicket haul by conceding only 31 runs in her 9 overs with a couple of maiden overs. Other bowlers bowled well with economic spells.
Bangladesh crossed the 150-run mark on a damp wicket, thanks to some useful contributions from captain Nigar Sultana. India bowled 19 extras in the match, all of them being wide deliveries, which was a lack of discipline in bowling. It was a good comeback from India, as Bangladesh was going well with 81/3 at one stage.
Collective bowling efforts from Bangladesh
Chasing a total of 153, Indian women never got going. No batter genuinely settled in the middle. Wickets fell at regular intervals and India could not recover. For Bangladesh, Marufa Akter was very good with the ball. The right-arm pacer claimed 4 wickets in her 7 overs by conceding only 29 runs. She was aided well by Rabeya Khan, who picked 3 wickets in 7.5 overs and conceded only 30 runs.
Nahida Akter and Sultana Khatun bowled tidy spells. Akter bowled 7 overs, conceded only 16 runs, and got the wicket of Harmanpreet Kaur. Sultana Khatun bowled 8 overs, conceded only 20 runs, and got the wicket of Pooja Vastrakar and bowled a maiden over. Fahima Khatun also bowled an economic spell where she conceded only 14 runs in her 5 overs including a maiden over. Indian batters clearly lacked intent with the bat and did not rotate the strike well. As a result, Bangladesh women created history in Dhaka.
