Intel aiming for a 2024 launch of Arc Battlemage GPUs
First released back in 2022, Intel entered the PC GPU market with the Arc series. While these GPUs were not as powerful as their competitors, they did give both Nvidia and AMD a run for their money.
Since the GPUs were very well received, the company planned further improvements to their cards. The company announced Xe2-HPG architecture also known as Arc Battlemage as their next card technology.
In a time when GPU prices were skyrocketing and Nvidia was dominating the GPU market, the Intel Arc series came as a great competitor. People were impressed with their hardware specifications and hoped that they could finally afford gaming in future.
A large chunk working on Arc Battlemage
Talking to PC World during the CES 2024, Tom Petersen revealed that almost 30% of employees at Inter are currently working on their Arc Battlemage GPUs. While most of them are working on GPU drivers, the is going according to play, he said. The previous generation Alchemist cards were fine in terms of hardware, however, they were held back by drivers.
While it was eventually fixed, the company missed the mark. This time around, the increased workforce might be to ensure the best performance. Petersen said while he can’t say anything about the specifications, launch or pricing, he revealed that the company will announce some good news this year.
“Battlemage already has its first silicon in the labs which is very exciting and there’s more good news coming which I can’t talk about right now … I hope we are going to see it before CES 2025,” he said.
In their roadmap, Intel have also mentioned even more generation GPUs, This means that the company plans to go even beyond Arc Battlemage GPUs. However, those were just the roadmap, no news regarding those GPUs is available yet.
