IPL 2023: Top 5 batters with most runs in IPL history
Indian Premier League (IPL) has completed 15 years. Since 2008, it has entertained not just Indian fans during peak summers but also global audiences. During this phase, there have been batters who have built their legacy and continue to do so. While there are a lot of batters who built their legacy, we will discuss the top-five run-getters including the ongoing season’s stats.
Top five players with the most runs in the history of IPL
1. Virat Kohli
The former Royal Challengers Bangalore has played 232 games (all for the same team) since 2008. During this, he has amassed 6988 runs and is only 12 runs away from 7000 runs, a feat achieved by no one in the league. Kohli averages 36.59 including five hundred, only one behind former teammate, Chris Gayle, and 49 fifties.
2. Shikhar Dhawan
The Punjab Kings skipper has played for Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mumbai Indians before joining the Kings’ squad. From 2008 to the ongoing season, the left-hander has 6506 runs to his name averaging 35.75 including two hundred and the same number of half-centuries as Virat. He has played 212 games so far.
3. David Warner
The Australia international made his debut in the 2009 season for Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals). From 2009 to 2023, he played for the Capitals, then Sunrisers Hyderabad, and is back with the old team. During this, he played 171 games and has 6189 runs to his name averaging 41.54 including four hundred and 58 fifties. Currently, he is leading DC in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who was ruled out of the tournament.
4. Rohit Sharma
The Mumbai Indians skipper since 2013 has played for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers before joining his current side in 2011. From 2008 up until now, he has played 235 games, the second-most in the history of the tournament. He is only behind MS Dhoni (243). Meanwhile, the former has amassed 6063 runs averaging 30.01 including one hundred and 43 fifties. In the last few years, his average has dropped significantly.
5. Suresh Raina
He is the only retired player to feature in this list. From 2008 to 2021, he played for Chennai Super Kings and the now-defunct, Gujarat Lions.
