Ireland become one of two teams to secure spot in Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

Ireland became one of the two teams that earned their place in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after the match was called off due to heavy rain against Germany, which led them to earn their spot in the forthcoming mega tournament. Notably, the match was played on Thursday, July 27, during the ongoing Europe qualifier.

After the win, Ireland skipper Paul Stirling affirmed his happiness while confirming that the squad is delighted to achieve their primary objective of winning the qualifier for the next T20 World Cup. The right-handed batter also said that their clear plan and style had helped them prepare for this mega tournament.

“While it’s true that we’d rather have achieved qualification on the field today, we’re delighted to have achieved our primary objective of qualifying for next year’s T20 World Cup. We came to Scotland with a clear plan and style of play we wanted to implement, and I think we delivered on that front,” winning skipper Stirling said on ICC.

We are keen to continue that winning momentum against India: Stirling

The top-order batter further went on to say that this isn’t enough for them. They hope to continue their winning momentum against Rohit Sharma-led India in the three-match T20I series next month. They are keen to win the trophy from India.

So, we’ll celebrate job done this afternoon, but there is a trophy on the line tomorrow and we are keen to continue that winning momentum going into the India T20 series next month,” he added further.

Scotland will also qualify for the next T20 World Cup

Earlier, Ireland had prevailed in matches against Italy, Denmark, Austria, and Jersey before the washout against Germany. Following the washout, Ireland will face off against the home team, Scotland, in the final match of the tournament.

Notably, both Ireland and Scotland are the two undefeated teams in the tournament at this point. It clearly seems that Scotland will also qualify for the next T20 World Cup, as they have won all four matches and have a good net run rate over any other team.
