Former all-rounder shares his insights about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in Team India for T20 World Cup 2024
Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan has spoken about the presence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cup 2024, slated to commence on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in red-hot form in the limited overs of the game. Moreover, both star batters didn’t get the chance to play a single T20I game since India’s 10-wicket loss in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against England in Adelaide.
Irfan Pathan feels West Indies and America pitches are quite unknown for Team India, so their experience will help them boost their camp in the marquee event. In addition, the well-renowned cricket commentator accepted that their presence in the marquee event will totally depend on selectors and management.
“I personally want to see him because if we talk about two years ago, he didn’t have the form, but his last IPL was amazing. On West Indian pitches, and you will go to America, there is a little unknown area there, so you might need experience there. It will be up to what the team management is thinking and what Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are thinking currently their focus and fitness, but I personally want to see both these players,” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports.
You are going to a new place: Irfan Pathan
Meanwhile, the former all-rounder affirms that Rohit Sharma was lethal in the ODI World Cup 2023 and has already set the tone for India, so he can repeat the same in the shortest format of the game. In addition, the 39-year-old cricketer feels Virat Kohli is an imperative player for India on and off the field for the coming tournament.
“Rohit Sharma has changed his approach and is scoring runs in a terrific fashion in ODI cricket. So if he converts that into T20 cricket – why not? You will need Virat Kohli in America. You are going to a new place. So I feel, firstly because of the pitches, and from an off-the-field perspective also, you might need him,” he added further.
