Asia Cup 2023
‘Isko toh voluntary retirement de kar ghar bithao’ – Fans react as KL Rahul set to miss Asia Cup 2023
Sri Lanka and Pakistan are scheduled to host the Asia Cup in 2023 from August 31 to September 17. For the first time in the championship history, the tournament will be held on a hybrid model. The Asia Cup will feature Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and India. Nine games will be played in Sri Lanka, while Pakistan will host four matches.
The tournament is just more than a month away and all the six teams are getting prepared for the big tournament. As the tournament comes closer, the selectors of Men in Blue are having issues regarding shortlisting the team as there are a lot of players who are dealing with injuries.
According to reports by Cricbuzz, star India batter KL Rahul might miss the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup as he has not recovered from his injury which he received during the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Sri Lanka – The defending champions of the Asia Cup
The Karnataka-born cricketer is undergoing rehab for the thigh surgery in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), in Bengaluru. The report further stated that the status of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper, Shreyas Iyer is unknown. Iyer had suffered a back injury during the BGT series 2023.
The Indian cricket team would not be traveling to Pakistan, according to a previous statement from the Indian Cricket Board. Additionally, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to relocate the Asia Cup. The ACC has dispelled any lingering doubts regarding the championship’s locations for the time being.
Nepal will compete in the Asia Cup 2023, which marks its inaugural entry into the continental tournament. After defeating Pakistan in the 2022 Asia Cup final in the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka became the champion.
In the league stage, India is in the same group as Pakistan and Nepal, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are in the second group. The Super Four round-robin stage will be played between the top two teams from each group. The round’s top two winners will advance to the final.
