‘Isne toh dil jeet liya’ – Fans react as Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage appreciates Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling after defeat against India in Super 4s clash of Asia Cup 2023

Sri Lanka’s left-arm orthodox spinner Dunith Wellalage’s heroics went in vain as Team India enters the final of the Asia Cup 2023 after their victory over the home team by 41 runs on September 12 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Notably, the Men in Blue had a terrific start as India’s star openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forged an 80-run partnership in the first 10 overs, but Dasun Shanaka’s side had a great comeback as they bundled out the visitors for 213 runs. Notably, Dunith Wellalage 5-wicket haul helped them decimate India’s batting line-up, whereas Charith Asalanka also grabbed up 4 wickets to restrict India to a narrow score.

Later, while chasing, Sri Lanka had an awful start as they lost crucial wickets early. Later, great all-rounders Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage stitched together over 100 runs in partnership to chase down the narrow total. Following that, star spinner Ravindra Jadeja broke that partnership, and Dasun Shanaka’s side lost momentum and were bundled out for 172 runs while allowing Rohit Sharma and Co. to reach the finals. Notably, Sri Lanka will be facing Babar Azam and Co. on September 14 to make their way to the finals.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old cricketer Dunith Wellalage received the Player of the Match award. The southpaw has touched millions of hearts as he congratulated first the Indian team for the amazing win they secured before talking about his heroics in the play.

“First of all I want to congratulate the Indian team. They have so many experienced players but unfortunately we lost the game but we have another game and we want to put up a good fight. Kuldeep is a great bowler, I tried to play my normal game with a positive mindset. I want to thank my team-mates and my coaching staff – they gave me great support,” Dunith Wellalage said during post match presentation. In addition, the young cricketer also heaps praise on Kuldeep Yadav for his 4-wicket haul.
