‘It was expected’ – Fans react to news of Champions Trophy 2025 which is likely to be moved out of Pakistan

In a major development that occurred on Monday, Pakistan is likely to lose the hosting rights of Champions Trophy 2025. As per reports, in the Indian media, it is learnt that Dubai is likely to be given the hosting rights for the event.

Pakistani cricket administration and its fans undoubtedly be disappointed with this latest development. Asia Cup 2023 was set to be hosted by Pakistan but the Indian Cricket Board showed its reluctance in touring Pakistan.

Sri Lanka eventually hosted most of the tournament with Pakistan hosting just three games. England had hosted the last two editions of the Champions Trophy in 2013 and 2017 with India and Pakistan winning the titles.

Dubai set to host 2025 Champions Trophy

Dainik Jagran on Monday reported that Pakistan is set to lose out on hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 edition. The reason behind this is India’s reluctance to tour Pakistan mirroring the stance taken ahead of the 2023 Asia Cup.

The report said, “Dubai is set to host the Champions Trophy or hybrid model if the India Government doesn’t change its stance.” Eight teams will be playing the tournament which is seen as the 2nd biggest title in the ODI format. Pakistan had won the title last time the tournament was played beating India in the final in 2017.

Earlier reports stated that the Pakistan Cricket Board wanted the Apex Cricket Body to compensate them. This proposal was made in case the Indian Cricket Board refuses to tour Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

According to a source, “Pakistani officials discussed the possibility of the Indian Cricket Board again refusing to send its team to Pakistan and made it clear that in any given situation the Apex Cricket Body must avoid taking any unilateral decisions on the tournament”

The source also went on to say, “The PCB officials said many top teams had toured Pakistan in the last two years without any security concerns. They also made it clear that in case of India not sending its team and its matches being moved to another country, then the Apex Body must compensate Pakistan for this.”
