‘Itna dheere kheloge toh kaise jeetoge’ – Fans react to Mumbai Indians’ dismal loss to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023

In the MI vs GT clash of the Indian Premier League 2023, Wriddhiman Saha was taken out by Arjun Tendulkar early in the innings, while Hardik Pandya was taken out by Piyush Chawla off the very first ball of his first over following the powerplay. In the powerplay, Shubman Gill made sure GT maintained their run rate.

Shubman Gill was all class as he has been in this Indian Premier League season and notched up another great fifty against the mighty Mumbai Indians. He showed his class and temperament and was searching for boundaries due to the long boundary dimensions of the Narendra Modi stadium. But Kumar Kartikeya took Gill out when he was trying to accelerate the innings and that was a crucial wicket at that time.

The Gujarat Titans’ innings moved towards a successful conclusion thanks to David Miller as well as Abhinav Manohar. Miller thereafter fell after scoring 46 off 22, while Manohar scored 42 off 21. When Rahul Tewatia stepped in, Gujarat Titans had an innings score of 207/6 after 20 overs thanks to his 20 runs off just five balls.

How did the Mumbai Indians’ chase pan out?

The batters for Mumbai Indians were unable to produce much with the bat. Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya were clinical with their line and lengths. Hardik Pandya took the important wicket of the opposition skipper, Rohit Sharma and from there, it was all Gujarat Titans domination for the next 10 overs.

Ishan Kishan and marquee signing Cameron Green were struggling to score runs and Mumbai were finding no go-ahead in their innings. They were able to score only 29 in the powerplay while chasing a massive total. Their misery was over as both of them were removed later on in the innings. As an impact sub, Tilak Varma came in at number 4, but he ended up throwing his wicket on the last ball of his first over. Tim David was also removed from the equation after he tried to show intent from the first ball itself.

Nehal Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav were still at the crease and looked for boundaries and were meeting the required run rate which was also soaring high. With fewer wickets in hand, this was almost the last formidable batting pair. Suryakumar Yadav was removed by Noor Ahmed, who was having a dream game.

Nehal Wadhera and Piyush Chawla got a small partnership but nothing that would affect the chase. Both of them lost the wickets later in the game and then it was just a matter of time before the result came in Gujarat’s favour. Gujarat Titans won the game convincingly by 55 runs and moved up to 2nd on the league standings.
