Team India are known for facing defeats against New Zealand in the knockouts of the multinational tournament and much to the delight of the Indian fans, the U19 women’s cricket team defeated the U19 White Ferns in the semi-finals of the ongoing U19 women’s 20-20 World Cup on January 27, Friday and ended the streak. 

To add more, the Indian team led by Shafali Verma are brimming with confidence as they remained unbeaten in the group stages and will now play the summit clash against either Australia or England who will face off in the second semi-final of the multinational tournament. 

As far as the match is concerned, the Indian women’s U19 cricket team won the toss and elected to field first, in what can be called a great call from their skipper Shafali. The White Ferns U19 struggled to get off to a great start as they lost 2 wickets for just 6 runs on the board, eventually losing their third after putting on 42 runs on the board.

Eventually, the fall of the third wicket saw the U19 New Zealand women’s cricket team crumbling like a pack of cards, as they were restricted to 92/8 in no time. Much to the relief of the Indian fans, the White Ferns U19 were restricted to 107 runs, which looked chasable considering the talent that the Indian team has. 

With skipper Shafali returning back to the dressing room for just 10 runs, fans were left puzzled as the team feared a possible fightback from their fiery opponents. To the relief of the coach and fans, Shweta Sehrawat stood rock solid at the other end and kept the scoreboard ticking joining hands with Soumya Tiwari. It was Indian Women U19 who won the game on the back of a gritty 61 from Sehrawat, who ensured that the team stayed alive in the race and saved wickets, as they chased down the target with 8 wickets to spare.
