Gujarat emerged victorious over Delhi in a thrilling Women’s T20 League encounter. Delhi won the toss and decided to field first. Gujarat posted a challenging total of 147/4 on the board with the help of Laura Wolvaardt’s half-century and Ashleigh Gardner’s solid knock.
Wolvaardt played a crucial role in anchoring the innings with her 57 off 45 balls, which included six boundaries and a six. Gardner, on the other hand, played aggressively and scored 51 off 33 balls with the help of nine fours. Harleen Deol also made a valuable contribution to the Gujarat total with her 31 off 33 balls.
In response, Delhi started their innings positively but soon lost momentum and wickets at crucial moments. Marizanne Kapp top-scored for Delhi with her 36 off 29 balls, including four boundaries and a six. Alice Capsey also chipped in with a quickfire 22 off 11 balls with two fours and two sixes. However, Delhi couldn’t maintain the momentum and were eventually bowled out for just 136 runs.
Gujarat’s bowling attack proved to be too strong for Delhi, with Kim Garth, Tanuja Kanwar, and Ashleigh Gardner taking two wickets each. Gardner was the standout performer of the match, not only contributing with the bat but also taking crucial wickets with her off-spin bowling.
Gujarat’s win takes them to fourth place on the points table with four points, while Delhi remains at second place with eight points. The win will give Gujarat a much-needed boost in confidence and help them to consolidate their position on the points table. Delhi, on the other hand, will need to regroup and come back stronger in their next match.
