‘It’s a huge deal’ – Umran Malik replies to former India skipper after being compared to Sachin Tendulkar

Umran Malik has been referred to as the next big thing in the Indian cricket ever since the day of his debut. For Indian cricket fans, his capacity to run in and bend his back while generating pace above 150 was something fresh.

India is not recognized for developing fast bowlers, unlike our neighbors. The 20-year-old participation in the game wasn’t unnoticed because of the many supporters who were charmed with the Jammu and Kashmiri lad.

While stars like Brett Lee and Dale Steyn were outspoken in their support of Umran, former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram even questioned why he wasn’t selected for the 20-20 World Cup team last year. The youngster was truly stunned by Sunil Gavaskar’s comment, who is a national hero of India.

“The last time I got really excited at seeing an Indian player was Sachin Tendulkar. And after that, I am excited to see Umran Malik. I do believe he should play,” when Umran received his first call-up to the Indian team in June, Gavaskar made the statement during the T20I series between India and South Africa.

Umran Malik center of attention in T20I series against Sri Lanka

Umran, meanwhile, couldn’t stop but just be himself in a chat with News 24 Sports when he heard about it. “Thank you, sir. If he gets excited seeing me, I am thankful. I obviously like it if someone says something good about me. For me, it’s a huge deal,” Umran told News24 Sports in an interview.

The Indian Cricket Board quickly incorporated him into the team because of his quick bowling. He currently has ODI and T20 international experience for his nation. Test matches are the last unexplored territory.

“See, whatever call I get regarding whichever cricket, I have to play. Be it Ranji or anything else. Even when I am not on National duty, I will play everything that comes my way. I am ready to play any and all formats. Every cricketer dreams of wearing the Test jersey and hopefully, whenever I get the chance, I will give my best,” added Umran.

Umran Malik will once again be the center of attention when the India team, led by Hardik Pandya, takes on Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series. He is anticipated to be in the starting eleven for the opening game at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
