The Indian Cricket Board has now announced the T20I squad for the upcoming tour to West Indies after announcing Test and ODI squads earlier. India are scheduled to play two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is against the hosts starting from July 12th. The T20I series will start on the 3rd of August.

The team will be lead by the all-rounder Hardik Pandya and this will be the fourth consecutive time that India’s T20I squad will go without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after the semi-final exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup. Apart from that, there are some new names that earned the maiden call for the India T20I squad.

Young batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Verma have benefited from their performances in IPL 2023. Jaiswal was amongst the leading run scorers of the season as he amassed 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48.07. Jaiswal was already selected for India’s Test squad against the Windies and now he finally earned his maiden India call for T20Is.On the other hand, Verma also a had great outing for Mumbai Indians in IPl 2023 as a middle-order batter as he scored 343 runs from 11 innings at an average of 42.87.

Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh missed out from the T20I squad

However, there are still some deserving players, who were not considered by the Board despite splendid performances in the T20 season. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star batter has been missing out on the T20I squad despite being the leading run-scorer for his team in IPL 2023. Apart from that, KKR skipper Nitish Rana was also ignored by the selectors in the upcoming series. Rinku amassed 474 runs in 14 matches at an average of 59.25. While KKR skipper Rana has scored 413 runs at an average of 31.76.

Rana indirectly showed his disappointment after missing out on the T20I squad. The 29-year-old took to Twitter to share a cryptic post to take an indirect dig at the selectors for ignoring him in the upcoming series. He shared a picture on his post which stated, “Bad days build better days.”
