Jannik Sinner to take on Holger Rune for semi-final of Monte Carlo Masters

The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters Cup has reached its final stages where four teams are left to battle for the title. The youthful semi-final lineup consists of young stars Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune joining 25-year-olds Andrey Rublev and Taylor Fritz in the last four.

Sinner and Rune will meet again for the second time while Rublev and Fritz are all set for their heir seventh ATP Head-to-Head matchup.

Italian Jannik Sinner provided a concise preview to tease this blockbuster matchup with Rune after his dominant win against fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

“Two young players facing each other. Both of us, we are very aggressive. We try to do our thing on the court, different kinds of attitudes. It’s going to be hopefully a very exciting match,” said the 21-year-old ahead of his clash with Rune as quoted by ATP Tour.

Both Sinner and Runw are in domineering form in their first irst clay tournament of the season, with each playing first-strike tennis to great effect. Sinner has shown flawlessness after saving a match point against Hubert Hurkacz in the second set of their Thursday meeting. The 21-year-old has lost just five games in his past three sets after a tie break against Pole that led to a deciding set. His 6-2, 6-2 win against Musetti was a masterclass in attack tennis from start to finish.

‘It’s going to be a great match no matter what’ – Rune

While Rune has not lost a set in his two Monte-Carlo matches. The Dane registered straightforward wins against Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev wins either side of a walkover against Matteo Berrettini. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals by 6-4 and 6-3.

“It’s going to be a great match no matter what. Two young players, up and coming. [Although] they’re already at the top, so it’s not really ‘up and coming,” sadi Rune ahead of the semi-final clash with Sinner.

The 19-year-old has already defeated Sinnner last year in the Sofia semi-finals, winning their lone previous matchup when the Italian retired with an ankle injury while trailing 2-5 in the third set.
