This achievement marks a significant rise for star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who previously held the highest ranking of No. 3.

The 30-year-old cricketer, Jasprit Bumrah, ascent to the top spot in the Test bowlers’ rankings is a historic achievement, surpassing the previous highest ranking for an Indian fast bowler Kapil Dev reached No. 2 on the Test bowlers’ table from December 1979 to February 1980. Meanwhile, fast bowler Zaheer Khan achieved the No. 3 spot in October–November 2010.

Notably, the Gujarat-born cricketer’s match haul of 9 for 91 played a pivotal role in India’s victory over Ben Stokes-led side, where he showcased his skills with the ball. In addition, the great seamer’s remarkable display earned him the Player of the Match award as India levelled the series 1-1. Moreover, Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 150 Test wickets in just his 34th Test.

Meanwhile, India’s young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, also experienced a notable rise, climbing 37 places to No. 29 in the Test batsman rankings after his career-best knock of 209 against England in Visakhapatnam. On the other hand, New Zealand star batter Kane Williamson maintains his position as the top-ranked Test batsman after his impressive performances in the first Test match against South Africa at the Bay Oval, where he went on to hammer back-to-back centuries in the Test series.
