Eoin Morgan, the former captain of England, has described the Indian cricket team as formidable competitors for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is set to take place in India later this year. Notably, this year, India will be hosting the mega tournament, which gives them a competitive advantage over any other team. They have not won any major titles since the Champions Trophy in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni and are still looking for their first win since then.

The former English cricketer affirms that the home team is favourites to win the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The 36-year-old also went on to say that the 2011 World Cup winning moment was truly magical as legendary skipper MS Dhoni finished off with a great six and clinched the title against Sri Lanka.

“The enthusiasm and passion displayed by Indian fans are unparalleled, which makes this special. India are favourites in 2023 World Cup. You don’t have to rewind the clock back that far when MS Dhoni was captain back in 2011, and that magical moment for Indian fans when he hit the six and lifted the trophy,” Morgan said as quoted by India Today.

The former middle-order batter further added that the Rohit Sharma-led side possesses great skill. He also added that the India squad should take advice and learn from the players who were part of the winning squad in the 2011 World Cup.

“The team has formidable skills, and can, indeed, be strong contenders in the upcoming World Cup. They also need to engage with and learn from the experiences of those who participated in the 2011 World Cup,” the former skipper added further.

Meanwhile, India was the first team to win as a host in the 2011 World Cup. Later, Australia and England also clinched the title as hosts in 2015 and 2019. India will be hosting the 2023 World Cup, and the Rohit Sharma-led team intends to win as a host.
