‘I’m just really, really pumped to be getting a game….’ – Josh Inglis reveals talks with selectors ahead of their ODI World Cup 2023 clash against South Africa

The Australia team gets their first win against Sri Lanka by five wickets on October 16 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Notably, star batsman Josh Inglis played an imperative role in the middle order. The great cricketer hammered 58 runs from 59 balls, featuring five boundaries and a six, to help his side chase down the total despite some quick wickets in the game.

The star cricketer, Josh Inglis, has revealed the talks he had with selectors ahead of the clash against South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, Josh Inglis got the nod as the wicketkeeper batsman in their second and third matches of the ODI World Cup 2023 over Alex Carey, as the latter has been out of form since Ashes 2023. Josh Inglis revealed that he got pumped when selectors asked him to fit in place of wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carey. The 28-year-old cricketer understands that now he can’t take things for granted after getting the chance to play in the XI.

“Do you want to play a game of cricket tomorrow?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I do’. I’m just really, really pumped to be getting a game at the minute. I can’t take that for granted. Still got to put performances on the board because Kez (Carey) is a very good player,” Josh Inglis said.

So that was nice to get some cricket there: Josh Inglis

The right-handed batsman opened up about his feelings and emotions when he was on the bench and didn’t get the chance to play despite being travelling with the team. However, the middle-order batsman accepted that he didn’t make an impact against South Africa in his second clash, but he feels confident after his magnificent half century against Sri Lanka.

“It’s always tough when you’re when you’re traveling with a squad and you don’t get that game time. You can train as well as you like, but without playing any games, you’ve got nothing to really fall back on. (In) South Africa, I was pretty rusty, I had one or two decent games but I hadn’t played any cricket for four or five months. So that was nice to get some cricket there and hopefully lead into doing well,” he added further.
