‘Spinners will play a crucial role…’ – Keshav Maharaj makes bombshell prediction on T20 World Cup 2024
South African star cricketer Keshav Maharaj feels that the spinners will play a crucial role in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is slated to take place on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA. Notably, the star cricketer has recently guided his side, the Durban Super Giants, in the final of SA20 2024, and the side will be facing Sunrisers Eastern Cape on February 10 at Newlands in Cape Town.
However, the star cricketer has recently opened up about how spinners can play a pivotal role in the upcoming marquee event. The 34-year-old cricketer feels the team will be using the spinners to provide control and variety in the event. In addition, the great spinner feels that such a platform proved to be a great opportunity for players on the international stage.
“Spinners will play a crucial role in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Wickets are getting better and boundaries are getting shorter. There is much need for a spinner in the team to provide control and variety. Hopefully, these T20 platforms can give spinners even bigger role to players coming to the international stage,” Keshav Maharaj said to PTI in an exclusive interview.
I am working on my power-hitting as well because I know that I possess this ability: Keshav Maharaj
South Africa star cricketer Keshav Maharaj feels that the team also needs spinners to complete each other. Moreover, the Durban-born cricketer aims to inspire the young spinners to take the game to the epitome of the level. Furthermore, the slow left-arm orthodox bowler currently focuses on his batting skills as well as his bowling style.
“You have to be street smart to succeed in T20 as a left-arm spinner. There is a need for any left-arm right arm or finger spinner to complement each other. If I can help the youngsters in this art of finger spin, I would like to believe that there will be some sort of motivation for them to continue with it and progress to a higher level in international cricket. I am working on my power-hitting as well because I know that I possess this ability. I hope to do well in both batting and bowling in the near future,” he added further.
