‘King for a reason’ – Fans react to Virat Kohli creating new batting record during ODI World Cup 2023 game vs Australia

Virat Kohli braved the storm to lead the Indian fight with 200 runs against Australia in the ODI World Cup match in Chennai on Sunday. The Indian top order was reduced to rubbles thanks to Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood in the first two overs. This was the first match for both India and Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

India at one stage had scored two runs for the loss of three wickets. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer left the fans disappointed with their flop show with the bat. This left the Indian team reeling in front of a packed house at Chepauk.

Australia were all out after scoring 199 on the board. This after Pat Cummins called the toss correctly and elected to bat first. The Indians were without Shubman Gill due to dengue while Marcus Stoinis was a major loss for Australia.

Virat Kohli creates new batting record –

Former India skipper Virat Kohli became the fastest batter in the world to reach 11,000 while batting at one down. The 34-year-old achieved this feat on Sunday in Chennai versus Australia. Virat Kohli held the fort against the rampaging Aussie seam attack as they prized out three early Indian wickets.

KL Rahul then joined Kohli as the pair added a 100-run stand for the fourth wicket to bring India into the contest. The two batters had recently scored centuries during the infamous 2023 game against Pakistan during the 2023 Asia Cup.

It was a stern test for India as they began their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign on Sunday. The men in blue were not only battling the pitch but also the hot and humid conditions in Chennai. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul batted well in tandem as they took the singles and doubles on offer.

The two batters did not let the bad balls go unpunished as the Australian bowlers struggled for ideas. KL Rahul also got past yet another ODI fifty as his ODI career revival continued. India will next play Afghanistan on Wednesday in New Delhi before the big clash on Saturday. It is the day of India versus Pakistan in Ahmedabad in front of a packed crowd.
