‘Kitna time lega bhai’ – Fans react as Rahul Dravid says it is too early to jump the gun on Suryakumar Yadav’s ODI form
Ahead of the series decider against Australia, India’s head coach Rahul Dravid asserted that he is satisfied with the home ODI series as there are a lot of takeaways for the team. India has already played eight home games this year before the series decider, including three against Sri Lanka, three against New Zealand, and three against Australia, which includes this decider as well, which will be played on Wednesday, March 22 in Chennai.
“We have to a large extent. We have got a lot more clarity at the end of these nine games irrespective of what happens tomorrow. We need to keep building on that clarity. For us it is now the different playing XI combinations and just ensuring that we play different combinations at times just to ensure that we are able to do that in the World Cup and we are not surprised by anything in the World Cup,” Dravid was quoted as saying to the reporters on Tuesday.
The right-hand batter is really upset with the Kolkata franchise‘s skipper Shreyas Iyer’s injury, who has now become India’s top contender for the number 4 slot as he has proved that with his bat in recent times. Whereas the other contender, Suryakumar Yadav has struggled to score in ODIs.
One of the things about Surya is that he is learning the 50-overs game: Rahul Dravid
“Obviously. it is unfortunate for Shreyas to get injured. He is probably one of those guys who would bat at No.4 and given a lot of time at that position. If you notice we have stuck to the people in positions. For two years leading into this run, there is a lot of T20 cricket played and we did not have a lot of one-day cricket and if there are injuries and all that, we do have options,” opined the 50-year-old.
“Not really concerned about Surya. He got two very good balls. One of things about Surya is that he is learning the 50-overs game. The T20 is slightly different. In T20, he has played 10 years of Indian T20 League. He (Surya) has played a lot of T20 cricket. He has played a lot of high-pressure T20 games. Even though he has played a lot of T20 cricket I think he has not played a lot of one-day cricket. We need to give him some time and be patient with it. We certainly see the upside of him doing well,” the former Bangalore franchise player added.
Here’s how fans reacted on Rahul Dravid’s statement:
Iyer injury is worrying. Surya can't replace iyer in ODIs. Need to play long innings.

With all respect to SKY ODIs are not a platform to learn. Go play Vijay Hazare and be ready for 50 over cricket.

Then stick to t20 cricket. Everyone is not triple format player. You’ll never see Joss Buttler in tests oftenly.

He isnt a 19 year old to sit patiently and wait for him to bloom. He is 33 already. Either people who are already good at it, let them play or play youngsters with potential.

Learning can't happen when you're playing for ICT. It's all about "perform or perish "
