‘If you can get to the milestone, why not. You must’…..’ – KL Rahul reveals conversation with Virat Kohli ahead of his 48th ODI ton vs Bangladesh

Team India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets owing to a sublime century by India’s stalwart Virat Kohli on October 19 at MCA in Pune in the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, India’s batting master hammered an unbeaten 103 runs from 97 balls and stitched the great stand with middle-order batsman KL Rahul to make sure his side continued the winning momentum in the marquee event.

Notably, India’s stalwart Virat Kohli was on 85 runs, which required 15 more runs to complete his century as well as India’s win. However, KL Rahul, who denied taking a single to assist Kohli in completing his ton, revealed their talks during the game.

The LSG skipper revealed that initially, Virat Kohli pushed him to take singles as he didn’t want to focus on his personal milestone over the team’s win. However, it was KL Rahul who pushed the RCB stalwart to achieve the hundred as India was successfully winning the game against Bangladesh.

“He was confused actually. He said ‘It will not look too nice, not to take this single. It’s still a World Cup. It’s still a big stage. I don’t want to look like I am trying to get to the milestone’. I said ‘It’s still not won, but I think we will win this quite easily. So, if you can get to the milestone, why not? You must’,” KL Rahul said at the end of the match.

I wasn’t going to run the singles anyway: KL Rahul

The wicketkeeper-batsman also said that he himself denied taking the singles to guide Virat Kohli to slam his 48th ODI ton. Notably, this conversation between India’s batting legends shows their unbreakable friendship and great sportsmanship on the field as well as off the field.

“He did that at the end. I wasn’t going to run the singles anyway. That happened in the last over as well. Bowled a slower bouncer, went for a wide. I mean…can’t really, it’s a hard question to answer. I decided I will have a quiet word with the bowler but yeah” he added further.
