Konami releases Silent Hill: The Short Message free on PS5

Konami and PlayStation fans have received a surprise game, completely free-to-play on PS5. Silent Hill: The Short Message was revealed during the most recent State of Play livestream by Sony.

The announcement was done alongside the Silent Hill 2 remake video. Similar to the name, the new PS5 exclusive game is not that long in terms of gameplay. However, what it does best is provide a good horror experience.

What’s the game about?

The game follows the story of a teenager named Anita. She finds herself in an abandoned apartment building, where she starts receiving texts from her deceased friend.

It features your classic psychological horror troupes, with the player getting stuck in multiple loops in the building. There is also some sort of creature that players have to run away from.

Producer for the Silent Hill series, Motoi Okamoto said, “This game started as something like an experimental project – an opportunity for us to try out different things, see what worked and what didn’t, and grow and polish our horror game expertise.”

Okamoto collaborated with Hexadrive for the game’s development. “This is still an experimental title, it was our plan from the beginning to release it for free, so that as many people as possible could play it,” he said.

Similar to a previous title

The Short Message also gives off a vibe of a previous project by Konami named P.T. The game was also a short demo by Hideo Kojima who has a rough history with Konami.

P.T. was removed sometime later, leaving the fans wanting more. The Short Message does play a little similar to P.T. and does fill the void for horror game enthusiasts.
