The England team has suffered a severe setback with the exclusion of top fast bowler Jofra Archer from the next Ireland Test and Ashes series in the months of June and July 2023. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Tuesday that Archer, who has been injured for the remaining IPL 2023, was ruled out for the remainder of the summer due to a stress fracture in his right elbow. The team for the Ireland Test was also made public by the board.

Archer, who has endured a string of ailments in recent years, participated in just five games this year, taking two wickets. He last played last week when he faced the Chennai Super Kings. The severity of Archer’s ailment is unclear in the IPL announcement, but it is likely his right elbow, which has been bothering him since 2021. Last year, Archer skipped the entire IPL. He debuted in MI’s opening game of the season but then missed four straight games.

Additionally, reports claimed that the speedster had travelled to Belgium in the midst of the competition to get a minor surgery done on his elbow. He rejoined the team, but Rohit Sharma, the captain, excused him once more for a “illness.”

Archer is not going to be able to play in any games for the remainder of the summer, according to a statement issued by England Cricket. The statement read that, “Sussex fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the rest of the summer after recent scans revealed he has sustained a recurrence of a stress fracture to his right elbow. He will now spend time with the England and Sussex medical teams, who will work on his injury management.”

Rob Key, the managing director of England Cricket spoke about the fitness of Jofra Archer. He said, “”It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra Archer. He was making good progress until a recurrence of the elbow injury, which kept him out for an extended period previously. We wish him the best of luck with his recovery. I’m sure we will see Jofra back to his best and winning games for England, whatever the format. Hopefully, sooner rather than later.”
