‘Kuch toh accha khela’ – Fans react as West Indies finish on high after another dominating day by India in 2nd Test

The second day of the second Test between India and West Indies saw arguably the most even contest between the two teams in a day’s play across the series so far. On a good batting wicket in Port of Spain, India continued their innings from where they had left on Day 1. From 288/4, India finished on 438 runs.

Virat Kohli, who was on 87 after the first day, notched up his 29th Test hundred and 76th international hundred. Kohli created the record for most hundreds after 500 international matches and also became the first batter to score in their 500th international match. In an unfortunate run out involving Ravindra Jadeja, the former Indian captain was dismissed for 121 runs. At the other end, Ravindra Jadeja scored 61 runs and helped India’s cause.

Ravichandran Ashwin batted well with the lower order and helped India to get past 400. In the process, the senior player scored his 14th Test fifty. India ended their innings with a total of 438 runs on the board. West Indies had a huge task ahead of them to survive the Indian bowling attack. For more than a session, the batters could achieve their motive.

Debutant Kirk McKenzie off to promising start

The pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul batted slowly but ensured that the scoreboard kept on ticking. The opening partnership for West Indies lasted for 34.2 overs. After a resilient knock of 33 runs in 95 deliveries, Chanderpaul was undone by Ravindra Jadeja. India got the much-needed wicket. The Indian bowling unit bowled collectively well. Although the bowlers could not get as many wickets as they would have liked, they did not let the match slip away from them.

On a wicket that did not help the bowlers much, India bowled economical spells and restricted the flow of runs. At the end of the second day, West Indies finished with a score of 86/1. The West Indies captain Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie are unbeaten with scores of 37(128) and 14(25) respectively. It was probably a day for West Indies, as they conceded only 150 runs, claimed 6 wickets, and scored 86 runs for the loss of only one wicket.
