‘Kya Champion jesa khela hai’ – Fans react as Ben Stokes slams record-breaking century as England beat New Zealand by 181 runs in 3rd ODI
English star allrounder Ben Stokes piled up 182 runs against New Zealand during the third ODI match at The Oval in London on September 13. Notably, the southpaw’s magnificent ton guided the home team to a great win by 181 runs against the Black Caps. Speaking about the match, Kiwi skipper Tom Latham won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. After being sent to bat first, England posted a massive target of 368 runs before being bowled out by New Zealand’s left-arm pacer Trent Boult, who got a 5-wicket haul during the play.
Ben Stokes scored 182 runs from 124 balls that featured 15 boundaries and 9 sixes with a solid strike rate of 147 and forged a great partnership with top-order batter David Malan, who hammered 96 runs to post a huge total. Later, while chasing, the visitors lost quick wickets and were bundled out for 187 runs, which allowed England to lead 2-1 in four matches of the ODI series, with the last to go on September 15.
We spoke about putting New Zealand under pressure: Ben Stokes
Meanwhile, England star batter Ben Stokes received the Player of the Match award and was pleased with his dynamic performance. In addition, the great batter revealed his plans for putting the Kiwis under pressure once they get quick wickets during the play. The southpaw also heaped praise on David Malan, who forged a great partnership with him but missed achieving the milestone. Notably, the great all-rounder made the comparison between Test matches and ODIs.
“Really pleased. We spoke about putting New Zealand under pressure and get to a good start and even after losing those early wickets, we wanted to be positive. As experienced players, we need to guide the younger players. He (Malan) is a very consistent player, he is a very quality player, rotates the strike very well as well and missed out on the milestone after getting a strangle down leg. I’m feeling much better, Tests matches are a bit longer but ODIs surely are not that demanding,” Ben Stokes said during post match presentation.
