‘Kya sahi bola bhai ne’ – Fans react as Ravichandran Ashwin hails Tilak Varma’s performance against West Indies

Team India is all set to lock horns against West Indies during the third T20I on August 8. Notably, the Men in Blue went down 0-2 after losing the second T20I on Sunday. In addition, during the second T20I, Team India posted a target of 152 runs owing to the stellar performance of Tilak Varma, who struck 51 runs from 41 balls, featuring five boundaries and a six. Moreover, the young batter has been receiving praise from fans and cricket experts for his fantastic knock and magnificent pull shots during the T20I match against the West Indies.

Speaking on the same subject, India star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin hailed the 20-year-old batter’s performance against the West Indies. Notably, the veteran offspinner says that Varma’s emergence in T20Is has made everyone notice. In addition, the 36-year-old bowler went on to say that Mumbai Indians batsmen resemble a lot like India skipper Rohit Sharma.

“The emergence of Tilak Varma has made everyone take notice of him. He looked in imperious touch even on that slow pitch in the first T20I. His batting style looked very unlike an Indian making his international debut. His game resembles a lot of Rohit Sharma,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

He is almost there in the contingency plan: Ravichandran Ashwin

Moreover, the Chennai-born cricketer questioned Indian management for putting Varma in the 50-over format, especially during the upcoming mega tournaments. Further, the great all-rounder feels that Tilak Varma will definitely be included in the 50-over format in the coming years.

“Will they see him (Tilak Varma) as an option in the 50-over format? But he has made everyone take notice of him with that knock.  We can’t really say that he is in the scheme of things when it comes to the 50-over World Cup. But he is almost there in the contingency plan. Because any selector or anyone who would have seen that knock would have gone,” he added further.
