MI women won the inaugural match of the WPL 2024 against DC women. In the rematch of the WPL 2023 final, DC women came so close to beating MI women but remained so far from the win. The debutant S Sajana turned out to be the star for the defending champions in their yet another successful run chase in the league.

MI women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to field first. DC women struggled to get going in the PP overs, as they were reduced to 30/1 in the phase. Meg Lanning and Capsey anchored the run chase in the middle overs. The duo steadied the ship and got DC off to a decent momentum. Lanning perished in the process by scoring 31.

Capsey continued and played a big knock. Her knock was determinant in DC women scoring 171 runs in their 20 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues and Marizzane Kapp provided the finishing touches for DC. Shabnim Ismail and Nat Sciver bowled good spells for MI women. Amelia Kerr was a bit expensive in the middle. 172 was not going to be easy despite the dew.

However, the duo of Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur batted well. While Bhatia had the advantage of the close-in field, she did hit some amazing drives. The Southpaw was later joined by Kaur, who smashed the bowlers for fun. The duo seemed to be in their element, as there were worries in the dressing room of the DC women.
