ODI World Cup 2023
‘Kyu pade to chakkar mein koi nahi hai takkar mein’ – Fans react as India thump Netherlands by 160 runs to register their ninth straight win in ODI World Cup 2023
The number 45 of the ODI World Cup 2023 was also the last match league match of this edition saw the Indian juggernaut taking on the Netherlands. The match eventually turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Indian team registered a thumping win against the Dutch by 160 runs. With this win, India have won all nine matches in the tournament and has topped the points table with 18 points. Now all the focus of the Indian team will be shifting to Semi Finals where they will be facing New Zealand on November 15.
Talking about the match, earlier in the day India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss. After winning the toss Rohit decided to bat first on a perfect batting afternoon at Bengaluru. The match eventually turned out to be a historic feat, the Indian cricket team made ODI World Cup history as all five of their top-order batters scored half-centuries in a single innings. Captain Rohit Sharma set the stage with a rapid 61 off 54 balls, complemented by the explosive Shubman Gill, who notched up a half-century with 51 off 32 balls. The dependable Virat Kohli also made a significant contribution, accumulating 51 runs off 56 balls.
While the middle-order batters Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul both scored a century. Iyer played a brilliant knock of 128 runs off just 94 deliveries and Rahul also chipped in with 102 runs off just 102 deliveries. With these record performances, India was able to register their second-highest total in World Cup history of 410 runs.
Netherlands fought valiantly in the run chase
In pursuit of the mammoth total, the Netherlands side fought brilliantly throughout their run chase. They did well in countering Indian seamers as well as spinners. Throughout the innings, it would not no wrong to say that every Dutch batter got the starts but failed to convert does. The top scorer with the bat for the Netherlands team was Teja Nidamanuru who scored a brilliant 54 runs off just 39 deliveries including six sixes.
Apart from that stars of the show from India were surprisingly Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who picked up a wicket each. Whereas Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja all chipped in with two wickets each.
