The fact that more than half of the teams have chosen to accept Pakistan’s hybrid model concept puts the Asia Cup this year in peril. The PCB recommended a hybrid format in response to India’s reluctance to play in Pakistan, where the Asia Cup was initially slated to be held. Under this model, India would have played in a neutral location while Babar Azam and the company would have played their games at home.

However, sources indicate that this idea is on life support because Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka have chosen not to embrace it. Teams will have to deal with additional travel and logistical hassles thanks to the hybrid approach, and the players will experience tremendous emotional and physical strain. 

Regarding playing in one other’s nations, India and Pakistan are at odds. Following India’s decision not to visit Pakistan, the PCB has also said they might not attend the ODI World Cup in India later this year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lost all support for the Asia Cup 2023, which is a significant victory for the Indian Cricket Board. The PCB’s cherished “Hybrid Model” has been discredited by Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket, and Afghanistan Cricket. The Asia Cup will only be held at a neutral venue moving forward, ideally in Sri Lanka. Moving the Asia Cup away from Pakistan was a priority for the Indian Cricket Board.

All three boards, with the exception of the Indian Cricket Board, initially endorsed PCB president Najam Sethi. Pakistan could have hosted four games in the suggested concept. The remaining games featuring India, as well as the championship game, would have been placed in Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates.

However, PCB gradually lost support as Jay Shah, the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council, refused to endorse the plan. If the competition moves on, it will now take place in a neutral venue. Pakistan’s participation in the competition is still up in the air, though. In the event that the hybrid model is not approved, PCB has already vowed to boycott the Asia Cup.
