Mitchell Starc replaced Scott Boland in the Australia XI, and England gave a chance to Joshua Tongue in place of Moeen Ali
Ace pacer Mitchell Starc has been selected in the Australian playing XI for the second Test. Starc has replaced Scott Boland and will be the pace spearhead for the visitors in the second Test of a five-match series. Australia are already 1-0 in the series after registering a thrilling two-wicket win on the final day of the Birmingham Test.
The pacer wasn’t included in the playing XI for the first Test and was last seen in action in the World Test Championship final against India at the Oval, where he scalped 4 wickets, including that of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. Meanwhile, Boland struggled to make an impact in the first Test, with the hosts’ aggressive batting line-up targeting the quick throughout.
On the other hand, the hosts, England already announced their playing XI a day prior to the second Test, where they included Joshua Tongue replacing Moeen Ali in the XI. Moeen, who came out of Test retirement after two years, ended up taking 3 wickets in the first Test. On the other hand, the 25-year-old Tongue who has played only one Test before finally made his debut in the Ashes at the historic Lords Cricket Ground. Batting first, Australia had a steady start with the openers, David Warner and Usman Khawaja at the crease.
