Legends League Cricket CEO Raman Raheja sheds light on MS Dhoni’s likely participation

Indian Cricket Fans share a special bond with their former skipper MS Dhoni. The 42-year-old may have retired from international cricket, but he is still playing in the IPL. While all the focus is on the releases and retentions of IPL 2024, the Legends League Cricket 2023 season is going on in full swing.

Raman Raheja the CEO of the Legends League Cricket tournament had a chat with The Times of India. It was inevitably asked if Raman Raheja could shed some light on the likelihood of MS Dhoni playing in the league.

Chennai Super Kings are set to name the players released and retained on Sunday. it was under MS Dhoni that CSK won their fifth title this year beating Gujarat Titans in the final. While it was speculated that 2023 will be MSD’s final year the CSK skipper has confirmed that he will be back for the 2024 season.

In an interview with The Times of India’s website, MS Dhoni and his likely involvement with Legends League Cricket was posed. Raman Raheja the CEO of the league had a very clear answer to the question posed by Times of India.

Raman Raheja said “We have more than 100 Crore cricket fans in the country and at least half of them outside India as well. So when you have such a large population, and we grow up looking at our heroes, we never want them to retire. We say Dhoni should continue to play till he is 50 plus or maybe more than that”

Legends League Cricket CEO continued “So it’s always hard when somebody like that retires, fans feel bad. So the idea was that they could extend their playing career and given today’s cricket has become very competitive with youngsters and physical fitness coming up, the average of a cricketer is actually coming down”

The 2023 edition of the Legends League Cricket tournament has completed 7 games. India Capitals beat Southern Super Stars by 7 wickets to win their first game of the season. Manipal Tigers and Urbanrisers Hyderabad are at the top of the table with 4 points from 2 games. Bhilwara Kings and Southern Super Stars occupy the bottom two places in the league as the tournament is now reaching its halfway stage.
