The 10th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 saw South Africa take on Australia in Lucknow. Australia had lost their last game to India in Chennai last Sunday. The South Africans, meanwhile, had beaten Sri Lanka in a high-scoring encounter in New Delhi last weekend.

Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first as both teams made changes to the team. Gerald Coetzee was replaced by wrist spin bowler Tabraiz Shamsi. Australians, meanwhile, made two changes as Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis came in for Alex Carey and Cameron Green.

Quinton De Kock had already decided to call it quits from ODI Cricket after the tournament. The 30-year-old, on Thursday, scored his second successive century of ODI World Cup 2023 to give his team a flying start.

Put into bat, South Africa began with Quinton De Kock and skipper Temba Bavuma. The left-handed wicketkeeper was playing in Lucknow, which is where he plays his IPL cricket. As a homecoming gift, the 30-year-old scored his second century of the tournament.

De Kock had earlier scored 100 runs from just 84 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes against Sri Lanka in New Delhi. On Thursday, De Kock scored his 19th ODI century for South Africa when he hit Pat Cummins for a six. There was a huge roar let out by the South African as the fans also chimed in to support him.

Temba Bavuma and Quinton De Kock added 108 runs for the first wicket under 20 overs. The first wicket fell when Bavuma batting on 35 was caught by David Warner off Glenn Maxwell. Rassie Van Der Dussen scored 26 runs before he fell to Adam Zampa caught by Sean Abbott the substitute fielder.

The 3rd wicket to fall was Quinton De Kock when he tried to reverse-sweep Maxwell for a boundary. The ball hit his pads and trickled onto the stumps as De Kock couldn’t believe it. The South African was out for 109 runs from 106 balls with the help of 8 fours and 5 sixes.

A win on Thursday will give South Africa their second win in ODI World Cup 2023. Pat Cummins and his side will look to win the game to claim their first win of the tournament.
