‘I’m the guy for you…..’ – Marnus Labuschagne opens up about his selectors before making it to final 15-members in 2023 ODI World Cup squad

The five-time world champions, Australia, are gearing up for the ODI World Cup 2023. The 15-member Aussie squad looks great and shows the presence of in-form batters. Notably, Australian star batter Marnus Labuschagne was able to make his way into the final 15-man squad after star all-rounder Ashton Agar got injured during the series against South Africa. The great batter excelled in the ODI series against the Proteas and India to fix his spot in the marquee event.

However, Marnus Labuschagne reveals his feelings when he did not make himself available in the ODI World Cup squad. The star cricketer is truly amazed and couldn’t believe he was able to get a place in the squad. The 29-year-old cricketer reveals that he held the talk with selectors and told them clearly that he was the best for the number four spot in the big tournament.

“Over the last eight games, it was more about making sure I’m showing intent, that I’m really reading the game and I’m staying calm. What I’ve done really well (from South Africa onwards) is I haven’t got caught up in what might happen or what’s going to happen. ‘I really feel like I’m the guy for you to bat at No.4,” Marnus Labuschagne said.

I worked hard at home on my one-day game on a few things: Marnus Labuschagne

The stylish right-handed batter opens up about the hard work and tactics he uses in the ODIs after he wasn’t selected for the big tournament. Moreover, the great batter was confident enough in the series against South Africa and India to impress the selectors about his red-hot form in ODI format as well, despite being a pure Test batter.

“And then from there I worked hard at home on my one-day game on a few things I wanted to change – a few technical things and just a few mental shifts as well. I was feeling very confident. So it was just about if the opportunity was going to arise (but) I felt very confident that I would take it if it did come,” he added further.
