‘Matlab Shoaib Akhtar sundar nahi hai?’- Twitter questions Sikandar Bakht’s logic behind ‘a pacer should not be beautiful’ comment

Former Pakistan players are always in the news for one or the other of their controversial comments. One such comment which is doing the rounds of the internet is made by Pakistan’s former player Sikandar Bakht. While speaking on a show, the former players said that fast bowlers should be scary like Shoaib Akhtar. He said that when batters face fast bowlers, they should be scared. He also added that fast bowlers should not shake hands with batters saying that it was disrespectful to the craft of fast bowling.

Bakht was particularly critical of one Pakistan fast bowler who he said was more focussed on looking good than bowling well. He said that this particular fast bowler is always clean-shaven and does not look threatening at all. Bakht compared him to Shoaib Akhtar and said that a fast bowler should look like Akhtar i.e. scary looking and not beautiful.

Of course, as is the case with comments like these, many cricket fans; both Pakistan and foreign fans soon started commenting on the absurd logic behind Bakht’s comments. Twitter was filled with reactions to the comment with most berating the former Pakistan bowler for saying something like that about, who many think, is Naseem Shah.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Sikandar Bakht’s comments:

As for Pakistan national team, they are currently playing a 5 match ODI series at home against New Zealand. The Babar Azam-led side won the first match of the series by 5 wickets. Fakhar Zaman came up with a brilliant century (117) while chasing a target of 288/7 set by the Kiwis.

Earlier Naseem Shah took 2 wickets alongside Shaheen Afridi (2) and restricted the New Zealand batting to a small total. The two teams will clash in the second match of the series on Saturday, April 28th.
