‘Mehnat mai chamakte raho’ – Fans react as India defeat New Zealand in high scoring semifinal to enter final of ODI World Cup 2023
India overcame the challenge of New Zealand to enter the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. A collective team performance from India helped them to beat New Zealand, despite being threatened to be posted a tough challenge by a spirited Kiwi side. The Indian batters scored a mammoth total of 397 runs on the board, which helped India gain momentum in the big match.
India won the toss and elected to bat first. Rohit Sharma batted extremely well and gave a brisk start to the Indian team. With the bat, Rohit scored 47(29), which set the tone for India. For the first wicket, Rohit and Shubman Gill posted 71 runs. Following Rohit’s dismissal, Virat and Gill anchored the Indian innings. Gill played a fantastic hand and helped India to surge ahead in the game.
Due to cramps, Gill had to depart being retired hurt. In came Shreyas Iyer and took the attack on New Zealand. With some good help from the other end, the two batters complemented each other and took India to a massive total. With some good finishing from KL Rahul and Iyer, India scored a huge total on the board. Virat created history as he became the first batter to score 50 hundreds.
New Zealand fights back, but India survives
Defending the target, India got two early wickets in the form of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Mohammed Shami was in a serious form in the match, like he has been throughout the tournament. From his end, Shami claimed wickets for fun. But at the other end, Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell posed a serious challenge to India. The duo threatened to take the match away from the home side.
Shami came back for his second spell and got the wicket of Williamson and Latham in a matter of three balls. Glenn Phillips and Mitchell tried their best to revive the innings of New Zealand. But their efforts remained unfruitful, as India won the match by 70 runs. Shami was exceptional and claimed a 7-wicket haul with the ball.
