‘I think he looked completely nerveless……’ – Former English cricketer heaps praise on Shoaib Bashir after his impressive performance in 2nd Test vs India

Former English cricketer Michael Atherton heaps praise on young spinner Shoaib Bashir owing to his great bowling spells in the second Test match against India on February 2. Notably, the great England cricketer picked up three wickets in the first innings of the second Test match at Vizag with a great economy of 3.63. Meanwhile, star bowler Shoaib Bashir missed the first Test match due to a delay in his visa.

However, the former England captain feels Shoaib Bashir was extremely nerveless when he played his debut Test against the home side. The 55-year-old cricketer says that Shoaib Bashir bowled accurately and went on to pick up great wickets, especially in Indian home soil conditions. The former batting legend talks about the bowling quality of Shoaib Bashir.

“For him to bowl as he did today, 28 overs, I think he looked completely nerveless. He bowled accurately throughout. And there is not much in the pitch for him or anybody else, to be honest. It is a huge wicket because India’s batting line-up is actually quite inexperienced for them. Shoaib got him early on, picked up a late wicket and took a catch as well, so it couldn’t have really gone better for him,” Michael Atherton said on Sky Sports.

Shoaib Bashir showed he has the temperament for the occasion today: Michael Atherton

Michael Atherton also talks about how Shoaib Bashir scalped the wicket of Rohit Sharma and how crucial it was for him and his side to dismiss the Indian captain, who is in good form. Moreover, the legendary cricketer feels Shoaib Bashir has shown great patience, and the series is terrific for him.

“He gets quite a bit of bounce because of his height and the overspin that he gets on the ball. Obviously, the crowning moment for him was when he got Rohit Sharma out. Most importantly of all, he showed he has got the temperament for the occasion today; a terrific day for him,” he added further.
