Michael Clarke to face the axe from Australia’s tour of India following Noosa incident

Published on

In light of the ongoing fallout from his grievous public altercation in Noosa, former Australia skipper Michael Clarke is expected to be replaced as a commentator for the impending test series against India.

The Indian Cricket Board is looking for other former players to replace Clarke in the spot he is supposed to fill alongside Matthew Hayden for the tour, according to multiple senior cricket sources, who did not want to be named in order to speak candidly with The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.

Clarke has stated he might yet be able to land a job conducting cricket commentary in February and March. Alternative commentators may be brought in to cover the entire trip or just the test or limited overs segments gave the short-notice nature of the change for India.

So many overseas players are going and playing in that tournament: Michael Clarke

When he returned to breakfast radio on Monday, Clarke did not mention the India commentary post, but he did remark that he had been given a job commentating on the Pakistan Super League Twenty20 event, which takes place from February 13 to March 19.

“I’ve just been asked to commentate on the PSL, the Pakistan Premier League, and you should see the internationals they’ve got. So many overseas players are going and playing in that tournament,” Clarke said on The Big Sports Breakfast.

From February 9 to March 13, four tests are set to be held in Nagpur, Delhi, Dharamshala, and Ahmedabad. On March 17, 19, and 22, three one-day internationals are scheduled at Mumbai, Vizag, and Chennai. On March 20, the Indian T20 League is expected to begin.

Multiple requests for a response from the Indian Cricket Board were denied. Before licensing the rights to the broadcast feed around the world, India’s governing body directly employs commentators for coverage of home series. The upcoming series’ rights are owned by Foxtel.

Additionally, Clarke has consistently appeared on the list of commentators for the Apex Cricket Council, notably at the 20-20 World Cup in Australia late last year. The ODI World Cup in India in October and November is the next significant international men’s event.
